''P. rubrolineatus'' có chiều dài tối đa được ghi nhận là 9,2 cm.<ref name="fb">{{FishBase species|Pseudanthias|rubrolineatus}}</ref> Từng được xem là đồng nghĩa của ''[[Pseudanthias fasciatus]]'' do cả hai loài có màu sắc rất giống nhau, đặc biệt là sọc đỏ viền lam nhạt/trắng ở giữa thân. Ở ''P. rubrolineatus'', sọc này kéo dài về phía sau và nằm ngay trên [[đường bên]] tại gốc vây đuôi, mảnh hơn so với của ''P. fasciatus'' (dày hơn và nằm đè lên trên đường bên tại gốc vây đuôi, có thể mờ đi hoặc biến mất khi đang [[Màn tán tỉnh|tán tỉnh]]).
