Yuri Manin sinh ngày 16 tháng 2 năm 1937 tại [[Simferopol]], [[Liên Xô]]. Ông lấy bằng tiến sĩ năm 1960 tại [[Viện toán Steklov]] với tư cách là học trò của [[Igor Shafarevich]].<ref name=":0" />
