Vòng Chung kết Liên đoàn (tiếng Anh: League Championship Series, viết tắt là LCS) là vòng đấu bán kết của mùa đấu loại trực tiếp tranh chức vô địch hàng năm tại Giải bóng chày nhà nghề Mỹ (MLB). Đây đồng thời là chung kết nội bộ của hai giải con trực thuộc gồm American League (AL) và National League (NL), với các loạt trận tương ứng lần lượt gọi là Chung kết American League (ALCS) và Chung kết National League (NLCS)

LCS đã được tổ chức từ năm 1969, nhằm xác định đội vô địch và đại diện của mỗi giải con tham dự chung kết tổng World Series. Vào năm 1981 và từ năm 1995 trở đi, các cặp đội tham dự LCS được quyết định bằng kết quả Vòng Bán kết Liên đoàn (Division Series) tại mỗi giải con.

Lịch sử

Trước năm 1969, nhà vô địch đại điện tại World Series của cả hai giải con được xác định dựa trên thành tích thi đấu trong mùa giải chính thức. Trong trường hợp hòa điểm, giải đấu sẽ tổ chức các hình thức đối đầu tiebreak, đóng vai trò như những trận vòng loại trực tiếp không chính thức. Chi giải American League (AL) đã tổ chức một trận đấu tiebreak duy nhất vào năm 1948 để xác định nhà vô địch giải đấu mùa đó, trong khi National League (NL) đã tổ chức các loạt đấu phân định theo thể thức ba ván thắng hai vào các năm 1946, 1951, 1959 và 1962.

Năm 1969, khi cả American League (AL) và National League (NL) mở rộng số đội thành viên từ 10 lên 12 đội (AL bổ sung thêm Kansas City Royals và Seattle Pilots, còn NL bổ sung thêm Montreal Expos và San Diego Padres), cả hai chi giải đều chia các đội của mình thành hai bảng đấu miền là Đông và Tây. Vòng đấu Chung kết Liên đoàn (League Championship Series) được thành lập như một vòng đấu loại trực tiếp mới để xác định nhà vô địch nội bộ của chi giải, với sự tham gia của các đội đứng đầu từ mỗi bảng đấu miền.

Trong 16 mùa giải đầu tiên, vòng Chung kết Liên đoàn (LCS) được thi đấu theo thể thức loạt trận năm ván thắng ba với phân bổ tổ chức 2–3, trong đó đội không có lợi thế sân nhà sẽ tổ chức hai ván đầu tiên, còn đội có lợi thế sân nhà sẽ làm chủ nhà tối đa ba ván còn lại của LCS, khiến cho đội cửa dưới không thể chiến thắng chung cuộc trên sân nhà. Cách phân bổ này mặt khác cũng cho các đội cửa dưới lợi thế hiếm có là việc bắt đầu loạt trận trên sân nhà, đồng nghĩa với lợi thế sân nhà nếu loạt trận kết thúc trong 3 ván, và được đảm bảo thi đấu hai ván trên sân nhà.

Năm 1985,[1][2] thể thức LCS được kéo dài thành loạt trận bảy ván thắng trận theo phân bổ tổ chức 2–3–2 trong đó đội có lợi thế sân nhà được tổ chức hai ván đầu loạt trận trên sân nhà và phải chơi ba ván tiếp theo trên sân khách, trước khi được trở về làm chủ nhà trong hai ván cuối nếu xảy ra. Ngược lại, đội cửa dưới sẽ chơi nhiều trận trên sân nhà hơn trên sân khách nếu loạt trận kết thúc trong năm ván.

Kể từ năm 1995, sau khi các chi giải được tái cơ cấu từ hai lên ba bảng miền, các cặp đấu LCS bao gồm các đội thắng tại Vòng Bán kết Liên đoàn (Division Series).

Trước năm 1998, lợi thế sân nhà tại LCS được phân bổ luân phiên giữa hai nhà vô địch miền (ba từ năm 1995 đến 1997); kể từ năm 1998, lợi thế đó được trao cho đội góp mặt có thành tích mùa giải chính tốt hơn, ngoại trừ trường hợp nhà vô địch bảng miền đối đầu với đội giành vé vớt, khi đó nhà vô địch bảng miền luôn được hưởng lợi thế sân nhà bất kể thành tích.

Tính đến năm 2026, tất cả ba mươi đội MLB đều đã lọt vào LCS ít nhất một lần. Houston Astros và Milwaukee Brewers là hai đội duy nhất từng góp mặt tại cả ALCS và NLCS.[3] Bốn đội chưa bao giờ thua tại LCS bao gồm: Colorado Rockies (thắng năm 2007), Miami Marlins (thắng khi còn là Florida Marlins vào năm 1997 và 2003), Tampa Bay Rays (thắng năm 2008 và 2020), và Texas Rangers (thắng năm 2010, 2011 và 2023).

Milwaukee Brewers, một đội từng thuộc American League (AL) với tên gọi Seattle Pilots từ năm 1969 đến năm 1997, và Houston Astros, một đội từng thuộc National League (NL) từ năm 1962 đến năm 2012, là hai đội duy nhất từng tham gia cả loạt trận ALCS và NLCS. Astros là đội duy nhất từng chiến thắng tại cả NLCS (2005) và ALCS (2017, 2019, 2021 và 2022). Astros đã có bốn lần góp mặt ở NLCS trước khi chuyển sang AL vào năm 2013, và góp mặt tại bảy kỳ ALCS liên tiếp từ năm 2017 đến năm 2023.

Danh hiệu và giải thưởng

Nhà vô địch American League (AL), với việc giành chiến thắng tại ALCS, được trao Cúp William Harridge, được đặt tên theo cựu chủ tịch AL Will Harridge.[4] Trong khi đó, sau khi giành chiến thắng tại NLCS, nhà vô địch National League (NL) được trao tặng Cúp Warren C. Giles, được đặt tên để vinh danh cựu chủ tịch NL Warren Giles.[5][6]

Ngoài ra, giải thưởng Cầu thủ xuất sắc nhất (MVP) của vòng LCS cũng được trao cho cầu thủ có thành tích thi đấu xuất sắc nhất trong mỗi LCS. National League (NL) bắt đầu trao giải MVP NLCS vào năm 1977, trong khi American League bắt đầu trao giải MVP của ALCS vào năm 1980.
